Assabet Students Improve Their Writing Skills Thanks to 'SMARTHINKING"

AREA, June 1, 2004--Assabet students have a new weapon in their MCAS and test preparation arsenal--SMARTHINKING, an online program that helps students strengthen their writing skills.

According to Dave Deegon, Assabet's Academic Department Chair,"Assabet is at the forefront in actively using technology and the internet to help our students strengthen their skills. We began using SMARTHINKING last year."

The student begins by logging on and selecting a set of questions to respond to. The student composes a rough draft and submits it. Within 24-48 hours, they receive their draft back with suggestions and comments on how to correct and improve their writing. This one-on-one, personal tutoring attention for every single student makes the system exciting. The students really like it, and educators involved think it is beneficial to have the additional writing support.
