WASHINGTON, D.C. - May 9, 2003 - SMARTHINKING announced the recent election of Richard (Dick) Casabonne to its board of directors. Bringing more than 30 years of education experience to the company, Casabonne most recently served as president of the Education & Training Group at LeapFrog Schoolhouse.

Prior to LeapFrog, Casabonne served as senior vice president of planning and business development for Harcourt Inc., and president and chief executive officer of Steck-Vaughn Co., a Harcourt division. In addition to experience as a K-12 and university educator, he is the founder of Casabonne Associates, a consulting firm focusing on strategic planning, publishing program development, education market research and school reform. Casabonne is a graduate of Brown University and holds a master's degree in instructional technology from Boston University.

Commenting on the new board member, Burck Smith, CEO, said "SMARTHINKING is broadening its scope. In addition to helping college students improve their writing skills and understanding of mathematics, we are now helping high school students hone their math and English skills in preparation for major assessments such as MCAS."
